My Why! Stephanie Riner Shares Her Passion for Care
August 5, 2025
Stephanie Riner, RN, BSN, a wound ostomy nurse at Trinity Health Muskegon, shares why she chose to work for Trinity Health Muskegon, since 2007, and how it fuels her passion to care for others.
“I enjoy working for Trinity Health Muskegon because we are part of the community that we work in,” said Stephanie. “We don’t just punch in and go through the motions. We know and take pride in the fact that we care for our neighbors, friends, acquaintances and sometimes — each other. It’s more personal than ‘just a job’; we are reinvesting in our community.”
Stephanie started her journey working for Trinity Health Muskegon in food service, delivering food trays to patients. Then, the hospital helped pay her tuition so she could go back to college. Stephanie worked as a certified nursing assistant while she was in the nursing program. After becoming a registered nurse, Trinity Health Muskegon helped pay for Stephanie’s bachelor's degree in science and nursing.
“I worked as a Medical/Surgical nurse for 12 years, and now I have stepped into the role of a Wound nurse,” said Stephanie. “Trinity Health Muskegon is financially assisting me to get my Wound/Ostomy certification.”
As a Wound/Ostomy nurse, Stephanie provides education to patients, families, and staff regarding ostomy and wound care. “I give recommendations on how to care for various wounds, and I work with hospital leaders to help facilitate best practice care regarding skin,” said Stephanie.
Stephanie found that her career with Trinity Health Muskegon offers her a healthy work-life balance, and she appreciates that her career continues to grow with her.
“Trinity Health Muskegon has helped my nursing career evolve with my needs,” said Stephanie. “As my family and personal life changed, Trinity gave me the resources and opportunities to continue this rewarding career — but in different roles. Roles that still make a difference, but allow work-family life balance.”
When Stephanie takes a break from working and studying, she loves traveling with her family and getting lost in the aisles of thrift stores and art fairs.
“I would recommend working at Trinity Health Muskegon to anyone who is eager to learn, be part of a team, and help give back to the community one patient at a time,” said Stephanie.
