What is Renal Artery Duplex?

Renal artery duplex is a non-invasive diagnostic test that uses ultrasound technology to see inside the veins and arteries of the kidney to check for narrowing or blockages. This procedure may take from 60 to 90 minutes.

The most common reason for the narrowing of renal arteries is renal artery disease. Reduced blood flow to the kidney can result in high blood pressure and kidney failure if left untreated. If diagnosed, your physician will work with you to craft a personalized treatment plan, which may include minimally-invasive intervention or surgery.

Renal artery disease is typically without noticeable symptoms. It's important to regularly monitor your blood pressure to check for sudden increases.
